This was taken from a ridge in the badlands of South Dakota in June of 2007. It amazes me how the picture just doesn’t do justice. But then again, maybe it had something to do with standing on a ledge that if you fell off you would certainly die, or at the very least wish you were dead. Notice on the left of the picture the log ladder like structure that had to be climbed up to get to this point and how small the people look. And, if you look toward the center of the picture you can notice a parking lot with cars on it that looks like little dots. Mine’s the blue blotch towards the far end of the parking lot.
This was really a nice hike, I really enjoyed the scenery, the constant signs warning about rattle snakes and the sign to my right (that you can’t see) that warns about the dangerous cliff ahead. It was at this point I decided it might be okay to just turn around and go back the way we came. I did notice I had excellent cell phone reception here even though I couldn’t spot a tower anywhere.
